quick & versatile games
warDeal the entire deck out evenly between both her and her friend. The rules of the game are pretty much like the card game War (both kids flip over a card at the same time), but instead of the player with highest card winning, the first player to say the sum of the two cards aloud wins the two cards.

kaboomFill a cup with popsicle sticks with equations on them. 5 of the popsicle sticks will have the word KABOOM! written on it. The students take turns picking a popsicle stick out. If they pull out one with an equation, they must try to solve it. If they are correct, they keep the popsicle stick, if they are incorrect, they put it back in the cup. If a student pulls KABOOM! They must put all their popsicle sticks back in the cup. Object of the game is to have the most popsicle sticks by the end. The great thing about this, is it's competition without pointing out who is better at math, as the Kaboom's even out all competition. This game can go on for as long as you choose. It's great because you can change the level of it to fit your students' needs. It's quick, easy, and cheap to make.
